Flights to be slashed by ten percent at forty airports across US—Duffy
"There is going to be a 10% reduction in capacity at 40 of our locations," Duffy announced during a press briefing in Louisville, Kentucky.
He explained that the decision was based on managing operational strain rather than airline traffic volume, saying: “This is not based on what airline travel has more flights out of what location. This is about where is the pressure and how do we alleviate the pressure."
Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Administrator Bryan Bedford, who joined Duffy at the briefing, noted that the measure was introduced to ease the workload on air traffic controllers affected by the shutdown.
"As we continue to see staffing triggers, there will be additional measures that will be taken in those specific markets," Duffy added, suggesting that further adjustments could follow if workforce shortages persist.
