County Line Road now open between University Boulevard and Broadway

Good news, Douglas County drivers! This morning, on Thursday, April 16, County Line Road, between University Boulevard and Broadway, reopened, marking a major progress milestone for the County Line Road Widening and Reconstruction Project.

During the recent 100-day closure, crews completed roadway work to keep construction team members and the travelling public safe, while also keeping this project on time and on budget.

After a 100-day closure, crews made major progress at Lee Gulch by moving and placing material to prepare the future roadway. Here is what has been accomplished so far:

  • 30,000 cubic yards of dirt placed to raise the roadway – enough to fill an Olympic-sized swimming pool over nine times!
  • 1,500 feet of Denver Water pipe replaced – that’s like stacking the Golden Gate Bridge on itself twice!
  • Over 3,000 feet of concrete wall constructed – about 2.5 times the height of the Empire State Building if stacked vertically.
  • 3,000 feet of concrete storm pipe installed – roughly half the length of a Kentucky Derby race.
  • Plus, crews have started construction on one of two water quality ponds for the project, and continue work on curbs, gutters, sidewalks and asphalt pavement.

What are the upcoming impacts?
On Thursday, April 16, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., expect mobile lane closures for striping operations between Clarkson Street and University Boulevard. Expect delays and watch for crews on foot.

Work will continue on noise walls, drainage systems, horizontal concrete work and paving. You may notice traffic shifts and intermittent single lane traffic as crews safely move into new construction phases. Please follow posted speeds and do not drive distracted when driving through the work zone. Construction activities are weather and site-dependent, and subject-to-change, which may impact the construction schedule.

We appreciate your patience as we build a safer County Line Road for everyone!

About the Project
Douglas County, in partnership with the City of Littleton, City of Centennial and the Denver Regional Council of Governments, started construction on the County Line Road Widening and Reconstruction Project between University and Broadway in September 2025. The $30 million project will improve safety and mobility and include one additional travel lane in each direction, a new traffic signal at the Clarkson Street and County Line Road intersection, mill and overlay for the portion of road within the City of Littleton between Phillips Avenue and Broadway, and the addition of new sidewalks, which will increase safety and mobility in the area. Project completion is slated for September 2027.
